Biography

Brandi and Reno have played in various Rock & Roll outfits over the years, but it wasn't until they went to Japan and landed a residency at a 1950's Rock & Roll nightspot in Osaka that their love of rock and roll dance music was born. Since then they have tried to recapture the excitement that they experienced there, playing the music that they have grown to love. Brandi and the Badcats is the result.

The band began doing gigs at various venues on the Mornington Peninsula and then in Nov 2002 they were offered a support at the yearly Rock & Roll show at Moorabbin Town Hall, an event organized by Three Dimensional Productions.

This was a great debut in the Rock & Roll dance scene for Brandi and The Badcats - (see review later) and it led to the band's New Year's Eve gig at Cabaret 499 in St.Kilda Rd. Melbourne, working alongside '50's singing sensation, Colin Cook; and to the support spot for Dave Somerville from The Diamonds when he came to Melbourne in August 2003 for the show at the Kingston Town Hall.

In March 2003, Brandi and The Badcats supported Bill Haley tribute band: Phil Haley and His Comments as part of their world tour playing to full houses at Sale Memorial Hall, Kingston Town Hall, and at the Whitehorse Club. All shows were a great showcase for the Badcats with a combined audience of over a thousand people. The reaction was staggering and has resulted in ongoing bookings, Radio appearances and a recording contract with Mustang Records.A mini tour in Sydney went so well that the band will be Sydneyside again in April(2004); and referrals from happy dancers led to the band being asked to open the Philip Island Hot Rod Show on Jan 02(2004).

To quote Greg Lynch in his column in "Rock & Roll News" (Feb. 2003)…
"…big movers and improvers during the year….a big welcome to the fabulous Brandi and The Badcats who debuted at Moorabbin for Derrick Gray on 16 November(2002) and played CABARET 499 New Year's Eve, Brandi is a female bass player whose driving bass gives the band a hard edge missing from so many groups today.”

From Jenny's Rock Report Rock n' Roll News (March .2003).. "Brandi and The Badcats are a new band on the circuit, they are experienced musos and have a fantastic sound"

The band recently completed their debut CD at Premier Studios for Mustang Records and launched it at Wintersun 2005 where it was met with enthusiasm. The CD, on sale in Australia and Europe, is a mix of R'nR; R'n'B; and Rockabilly and includes four originals, including one written by Harold Frith and formally released as an instrumental with the thunderbirds.

For eighteen months Brandi and Reno had the privilege of working with Harold Frith on drums and some great sax players including Steve Williams (John Farnham), and Ron Anderson. And they appeared at Wintersun 2005 with Harold and Ron.

Through Wintersun Brandi and Reno were introduced to Cliff from Sky High entertainment and he convinced them to bring the Badcats to Queensland where together they could realize the dream. Brandi's exciting way with the Fender Bass meant that wherever the Badcats played people would request Suzi Quatro. So the Badcats started including some of her material in their show. But that was not enough for their fans who encouraged the band to play more and more Suzi. Soon it became a dream of the band to put together a full Suzi Show.

Brandi and Reno arrived in Queensland on the 2nd August 2005 to realize that dream, and within a fortnight had met Mick Hallet from Sydney who had been playing drums for 15 years mostly in punk bands. He loves Suzi and knows all of her songs. Remarkably he can also swing and he is the perfect drummer for both shows, a true gem as it is very rare to find a rock drummer who can swing and belt out rockabilly. The band went into intensive rehearsals and were ready to debut the Suzi Show on the 30th Oct at the Kedron Wavell Club in Chirmside. The show was a huge success (see the photos on pictures).

So to all you wonderful fans, thanks heaps and catch you at the show!!

"In the spotlight again, Brandi and Reno are now performing the Suzi Quatro tribute show which is totally awesome. Their musical ability is one of the best as we as entertainment promoters have ever seen. We predict big things for the show which totally encases the hysteria and appeal of the real Suzi Quatro show in her prime. We are predicting full houses in each and every club they play. The presence and atmosphere is totally recaptured. We present you with the show of the year!!!" - Sky High Entertainment.
